Fans who are excited about the new expansion of the "Final Fantasy XIV" game — especially those who are still using the PlayStation 3 — are in for a disappointing bit of news. After all, Square Enix has revealed that they are ending support for the game's PlayStation 3 version.

According to Game Rant, the latest "Final Fantasy XIV" festival held in Las Vegas has revealed the game's next biggest expansion —titled "Stormblood" — which will plunge the players into a new setting called Ala Mhigo starting in early summer of 2017. However, the big reveal for the expansion has also included an announcement that will also mark the end of PlayStation 3 support for the game.

It might be bad news for some people, but the reveal by no less than the game's director Naoki Yoshida was met with a round of applause. The reason for this is that it was long believed that the PlayStation 3 support has been holding back the game's full potential because of the console's limited technical capabilities.

Also, the number of players transitioning to the PlayStation 4 has also given Square Enix opportunities they were otherwise unable to explore in the new "Stormblood" expansion.

However, those who do to transition to the PlayStation 4 from the PlayStation 3 need not lose hope just yet. Yoshida has also promised that there will be a "free" upgrade path to bring them to the PS4 once they are able to purchase their console.

WCCFtech also reports that the minimum requirements for the PC version of the game will be raised, though no further details have been disclosed just yet. Basically, the 32-bit OS will still have support, but for optimal gaming experience, it is best to use a 64-bit system instead.

"Final Fantasy XIV" and its first expansion are currently available for the PS3, PS4, and the PC platforms.
