'Final Fantasy 15' release date: stealth gameplay and new character

Square Enix

"Final Fantasy XV" continues to grow as a new trailer from Square-Enix showcases the new stealth gameplay that is eerily similar to last year's hit steal-action game, "Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain."

The segment of the game shown in the trailer takes place in the Niflheim Empire base and focuses more on the stealth takedowns.

"Final Fantasy XV" is known for its action-RPG mechanics but the gameplay showcased in the trailer has a stronger emphasis on staying unseen in the shadows and using crates or other environmental objects to stay out of sight. During the segment, Noctis is seen avoiding both enemies guarding the base and security spotlights.

Everything goes wrong when one of the floodlights shines on Noctis, instantly sending the whole base on alarm. At one point there is even a large robot akin to the Metal Gear Rex machine seen in the "Metal Gear Solid" games. This large machine tries to stomp on Noctis. At this point the game returns to its action-RPG gameplay mechanic.

At the tail-end of the trailer a new character is introduced. Crashing down from the ceiling is a female warrior wielding a lance. The new female character is known as Aranea Highwind.

According to a report from PlayStation Universe, she is a legendary dragoon working for the Niflheim Empire. She is also the commander of the Niflheim's Third Army Corps Eighty-Seventh Airborne Division. Her last name also suggests some connection to this game's Cid.

Many fans, however, voice out that this is a bad sign for "Final Fantasy XV" as it seems like the director and the rest of the production staff are simply trying too hard to cater to what the fans want instead of making a well-designed game. Many fans claim that this is simply Square-Enix trying to copy the success of other titles out in the market.
