DC Entertainment is steadily launching its television shows, which started with "The Flash" and "Arrow" on the CW network. Now, fans can look forward to "Supergirl" as it airs on CBS this November with a Monday night schedule. To give fans a good look at what to expect, the first trailer has been released. 

Melissa Benoist plays Kara Danvers a.k.a. Kara Zor-El/ Supergirl, the cousin of Clark Kent a.k.a. Kal-El/ Superman. The trailer reveals that she left their planet Krypton at the age of twelve and was adopted by the Danvers family upon her arrival on Earth. Unlike her cousin, she didn't immediately jump into the role of a superhero. 

The trailer also shows that Kara is very close to her foster sister Alex, played by Chyler Leigh, and is the only person thus far who knows about her powers. Kara starts working as a media assistant for media mogul Cat Grant, played by Golden Globe Award-winner Calista Flockhart, in National City. 

James "Jimmy" Olsen, former photographer of the Daily Planet and confidant of Clark Kent, now works for Cat Grant as her new art director and also becomes a part of Supergirl's circle of friends. 

Scenes from the trailer indicate that the show has a light tone with a strong sense of humor without ditching the action and special effects that makes this a stellar superhero series. From the first time Kara dons her superhero costume to the first few sneak peeks of her fighting other super-powered beings, this trailer proves that the show knows its property well. 

The trailer doesn't directly indicate if Superman himself will make an appearance. The character is shown as a baby and Jimmy Olsen gives Kara a gift from Superman but the only glimpse of the superhero is blurry. 

According to a report from the IBTimes, CBS is currently conducting a casting call for a tall male with a fit physique, and this can be speculated to be a hunt for the right person to play Superman.
