The Fitbit Alta, the stylish and sleek fitness tracker, is now available for fitness fanatics in the U.S. Global availability is said to begin in April.

The latest fitness tracker from Fitbit features a lot of functions in a very slim design. Wearers of the Fitbit Alta can, at a glance, have access to All-Day Activity, like the total number of steps taken, distance covered and calories burned within a particular time of the day.

The proprietary SmartTrack can recognize specific activities being performed by the wearer and automatically records the information without the wearer touching anything on the tracker. Meanwhile, the Reminders to Move feature prompts the wearer to be active all throughout the day.

Other typical functions include call, text and calendar alerts; auto sleep tracking; and of course, clock.

One of the highlights of the Fitbit Alta is its ability to be functional for five straight days before it needs to be recharged. There are also several options for its bands -- metal, leather or classic. These accessories will surely make the Alta more wearable on every possible occasion and not just during fitness activities

Warable had the opportunity to talk to Gareth Jones, VP and general manager of the EMEA Sales division of Fitbit Inc., about their latest fitness tracker. Alta has been specifically targeted at the more fashion-conscious portion of the populace, and having the right time of the year and the right people to promote their latest product really matters to them.

Jones stated, "It was our plan to get these devices out early in the year, with the Blaze. It was about that time of the year when people are thinking, 'new year, new you'. We used the communication of the Alta four weeks after the announcement of Blaze by using the fashion shows."

He added, "Personally, I would love to have a Paul Smith one, a Gucci one, a whole variety of trendy brands."

The Fitbit Blaze was launched last January and is a full-size smartwatch but incorporates fitness tracking features similar to the Alta.

The Fitbit Alta is available in Black, Blue, Plum and Teal classic bands for $129.95. There are three sizes for the bands to choose from.
