Indie game developer Scott Cawthon has just published and released "Five Nights at Freddy's 4," a full two weeks ahead of its Aug. 8 release date. The game is now available via Steam for $7.99.

The game was originally planned to be released on Halloween but was later moved to Aug. 8 to coincide with the anniversary of the first "Five Nights at Freddy's" game, first released for the Desura on Aug. 8, 2014 and for Steam on Aug. 20, 2015. Scott later posted his official statement on the Steam Community board which reads as follows:

"Ok, so as many of you already know, I'm bad with release dates. The game is finished. :) Enjoy! Also, I see there are comments about the full-screen option not working correctly, I'll have that addressed before the day is over. Few more minutes..."

"Five Nights at Freddy's 4" once again puts the player in an isolated building where they must survive several nights while murderous animatronics roam the area. This time around, however, the gamer plays a child instead of a security guard and is only equipped with a flashlight.

Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy return as the main villains. According to several rumors on the Internet, such as one reported by gaming and anime site Kotaku, "The Final Chapter" is actually a prequel and relays the story of the "Bite of '87" where one of the animatronics bit off the frontal lobe of a child at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza.

The report also cites that "The Final Chapter" might be more of an inside joke referencing numerous horror franchises such as the "Friday the 13th" films which tend to use "The Final Chapter" for their movies then releasing a sequel a few years later, indicating that Cawthon Games might still develop another "Five Nights at Freddy's" title.

No official release for iOS or Android have yet been announced at the time of writing.
