'Five Nights at Freddy's 4' news: Creator Scott Cawthon to release update on Halloween

Five Nights at Freddy's 4 - ChicaScott Games

Scott Games surprised fans when it released "Five Nights at Freddy's 4" much earlier than its expected Halloween release date. First saying that the game was finished and would roll out on Aug. 8, series creator Scott Cawthon stunned avid gamers by releasing the final chapter in the smash hit puzzle survival game series on July 23.

The surprise, however, doesn't stop with the early release of the game. To celebrate the fantastic run and anniversary of the series, Cawthon will again be surprising fans, this time with an Oct. 31 update.

When the update goes live this Halloween, fans will be able to unlock additional treats when playing "Five Nights at Freddy's 4," particularly finishing the sixth night in the game. After beating the level, players will be able to access a cheat menu, a challenge menu, and an updated minigame that rewards players with a boost during challenge modes.

Announcing the update on the title's Steam page, Cawthon also teased fans that he may include a preview of an upcoming game, saying, "It will be a real challenge to have even a small playable portion by Oct 31st. If a playable demo isn't ready by then, then at the very least there will be some sneak-peak content."

However, Cawthon stressed that the new title will not be a continuation of the series since he already decided that "Five Nights at Freddy's 4" is really the final chapter in the franchise.

Currently, "Five Nights at Freddy's 4" is enjoying positive reviews from fans and casual gamers alike, even earning a well-received 8/10 rating from game industry expert GameSpot, saying the game is a show-stopper due to its "dark humor, heart-pounding terror, and story delivery."
