Game developer Scott Cawthon has officially revealed in a post on Steam that there will not be a "Five Nights at Freddy's 5." He explains that the story of the main franchise is done and that he is working on a new game, a spin-off that will tell a different story. The post reveals that this new game is titled "FNAF World" and that it will be a role playing game.

Cawthon states that he wants to use the characters from the "Five Nights at Freddy's" games because they are "near and dear" to him. However, the story and setting will be separate from the main franchise. He explains that it won't even be a horror game, although the party of characters will include the Nightmare and other versions of the famous animatronics.

At the moment, Cawthon has completed most of the work on the main characters and states that he will begin working on enemy models.

The game was initially meant to be unveiled by Halloween and it is implied that a demo would be released as well; however, Cawthon confirms that a demo may not be readily available by that time. He states that a free demo will be released as soon as possible, indicating that the demo may be launched before the end of 2015.

Cawthon confirms that there is no specific release date yet, although "FNAF World" is expected to be launched sometime in 2016. Cawthon's official website also has a teaser image that showcases all the characters that a player can include in their party.

While the new spin-off is not related to the main franchise, the Halloween update for "Five Nights at Freddy's 4" will be. Cawthon explains, however, that it will not add anything new to the story.

"Five Nights at Freddy's," meanwhile, continues to expand with a film adaptation currently in development and being directed by Gil Kenan.
