'Five Nights at Freddy's' movie news: Movie script in the works

It is not rare to see video games come to life on the big screen, but at the same time, it's not every day that it happens. For a video game to make it to theaters means that the title is overly popular. Take for example "Resident Evil," "Mortal Kombat," and "Tomb Raider."

Now, another very popular video game series will have a movie adaptation and it's none other than "Five Nights at Freddy's," a game created by Scott Cawthon. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Davd Katzenberg, Seth Grahame-Smith and Roy Lee will be producing the movie under Vertigo Entertainment and KatzSmith Productions. Warner Bros has picked up the rights to the adaptation.

It will be interesting to see what kind of approach will be made for the "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie. This is one of the weirdest games out there, yet it's entertaining at the same time. Will the producers take a more wholesome direction or go for something horrific? Grahame-Smith hints at doing both.

"We're looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie," he said.

As for Cawthon, he is hinting that the movie may go down the horror niche, saying, "The story really lends itself to being a movie, and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to."

The writers are said to be working on the movie script already. The target shooting date is this summer.
