Developer Scott Cawthon recently released a spin-off novel of his "Five Nights at Freddy's" franchise. The novel, titled "Five Nights at Freddy's: The Silver Eyes," was released to resounding success.

However, diehard fans who have read the book hoping to find clues and answers that lingered when the games series ended were disappointed. According to reports, there was such negative feedback that Cawthon himself decided to address the issue.

In his answers on the Steam Community forums, Cawthon mentioned that fans should've kept in mind that the book has nothing to do with the games at all.

Movie News Guide quoted Cawthon as saying, "The book is not intended to solve anything. The games and the books should be considered separate continuities, even if they do share many familiar elements."

The developer also stated that although the two can be considered part of the entire "Five Nights at Freddy's" world, the games and the books are separate. They are much like the upcoming "Five Nights at Freddy's World" being only a spin-off of the original games series.

Cawthon added, "So yes, the book is canon, just as the games are. That doesn't mean they are intended to fit together like two puzzle pieces."

Meanwhile, Design & Trend surmised that based on Cawthon's statements, both the book and games are meant to be enjoyed separately. This means that those who have not yet played the titles under the "Five Nights at Freddy's" games series can still cope with the events that happen in "FNAF: The Silver Eyes."

The industry follower added that the phrase "alternate universe" can be considered for the book and the other follow-ups that may stem from the original. Although the events will eventually follow the plot and stories that were wrapped up (or left hanging) in the first to fourth installments of "Five Nights at Freddy's," the games themselves will still make for a unique story by themselves.
