The HGTV reality TV show "Fixer Upper" wrapped up its final season earlier this month. Home-remodeling experts Chip and Joanna Gaines recently traveled to Florence, Italy for some deserved rest and relaxation.

It seems that their vacation was off to a good start since Joanna revealed via Instagram that the couple missed "breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon of shopping with friends" in favor of a 15-hour sleep marathon. "That rest felt good!" Joanna wrote.

The rest of their Florence escapade was spent doing a variety of activities. The couple's fans were not left out of the loop, because Joanna has been sharing her moments with Chip via Instagram.

First, the couple participated in a pasta-making class. Joanna shared this moment with an Instagram story, where an enthusiastic Chip can be heard asking if people want to join him in making some pasta.

And what's an Italian getaway without a little bit of roadtrip? The couple also rented some scooters and took them for a ride. Driving around in Vespa scooters is an iconic activity in Italy, and the couple went at it with matching red helmets.

Another of Joanna's Instagram posts captured the awesome Vatican landscape, drenched in a beautiful orange sky.

To top it all off, the couple also celebrated Chip's 43rd birthday. The fancy cake had a sparkler on it, and Joanna posted a video with Chip singing "Happy birthday to me." Friends came over and they spent most of the night playing charades by a fireplace.

According to Travel and Leisure, the Gaines could not have picked a better time of the year to be in Florence.

The middle of November is known as the "shoulder season," the time between two peak travel times. This means that among other conveniences, there are cheaper airfare, hotel rates, and fewer tourists in the city.
