'The Flash' season 2 spoilers: Will Barry and Iris couple up?

The Flash CW

"The Flash" season 2 won't see any romance brewing between Barry and Iris, at least not yet. In an interview with TV Line, actor Grant Gustin, who portrays the Scarlet Speedster, revealed that "it's too soon" considering all the life-altering events that happened and the untimely deaths that were necessitated.

The series will likely show Iris in mourning when it returns, and according to Gustin, "Barry wants to be there for Iris as her best friend right now." The actor added that "it's too soon for everybody. Some tragic events just took place!"

Candice Patton, who plays Iris, recently told TV Line in a separate interview that the tragedy also gives her character a chance to be more "independent and resourceful." The actress added that Iris will likely hang out in S.T.A.R. Labs more often as she tries to "get her career off the ground at Picture News."

"So I, personally, am really hoping to see Iris have more agency and more abilities to help the team and The Flash and the city that she loves so much," Patton admitted.

She mentioned nothing as to how Eddie's death will change things between her and Barry.

Meanwhile, with the introduction of multiverses and alternate timelines, it makes sense that more characters will be introduced in season 2. Regarding this, executive producer Geoff Johns revealed that "there are a lot of new characters coming in" and "not just the ones that have been leaked online."

He added that these newcomers "will challenge relationships in good and bad ways." One of these fresh faces will be Joe's new partner. On the night the wormhole prepared to gulp Central City, Joe also lost a partner but someone will be filling that place in the second season.

The CW is in search of someone that can portray the role of Joe's troubled friend named Olivia. There are reports that she may serve as a love interest for him as well. Should that happen, the father and daughter will find new love and all because of Eddie's sacrifice.

"The Flash" season 2 will air Oct. 6.

It may be hard to fathom how such pettiness plays into the government’s wider crackdown on FoRB and other fundamental human rights, or how on earth it could justify extending its repression to children, but ultimately it all comes down to fear.
