The Reverse Flash may be dead and gone, but it does not mean that Barry Allen's (Grant Gustin) life and his alter-ego can take it easy when "The Flash" returns for season 2. 

Executive producer Gabrielle Stanton revealed to TVLine that The Flash will face a new foe next season, a character named Zoom. Stanton described the character as "scary as hell," and he somewhat resembled Eobard Thawne at first glance. 

"Zoom is going to be very different in terms of motivation, in terms of what he wants from The Flash, in terms of why he's doing what he's doing," Stanton said. "I know a lot of people are thinking, '[Zoom and Reverse Flash] were so similar in the comics. What's going to make them different?' I guarantee no one will confuse him for one second with what we did last year. It's actually much more different than people would think." 

Meanwhile, a sneak peek of the first episode of "The Flash" season 2 was released via TVInsider, and almost the rest of the cast can be seen in the image. The photo shows Barry and his S.T.A.R. Labs friends Cisco (Carlos Valdes), Iris (Candice Patton), Joe (Jesse L. Martin), Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker), and Dr. Stein (Victor Garber) facing an unidentified visitor in the headquarters. 

While the role of Zoom has yet to be cast, the casting staff of the show already confirmed Shantel VanSanten from "One Tree Hill" to portray the role of Barry's new love interest named Patty Spivot. She will be joined by other "The Flash" newbies like "Masters of Sex" star Teddy Sears to portray the role of Barry's future mentor and Golden Age speedster Jay Garrick, "Insurgent" actor Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West, as well as Adam "Edge" Copeland as the Atom Smasher. 

"The Flash" season 2 will premiere on The CW on Oct. 6.
