'The Flash' season 2 spoilers: New partner for Joe West

Patty SpivotDC Comics

The season 1 finale of "The Flash" saw Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett) sacrificing himself in order to wipe Eobard Thawne/ Reverse-Flash (Tom Cavanagh/ Matt Letscher) from existence. According to a report from ComicBook.com, season 2 will replace Eddie and give Detective Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) a new partner.

According to the report, several audition videos show Joe West talking to a character named Patty, which ComicBook points out as Patty Spivot from the DC Comics. In the comic books, Patty is a blood analyst for the Central City Police Department and is also Barry Allen's new girlfriend.

One of the videos showcase Patty talking to Joe about metahumans and that she can be trusted. The other video shows her with Barry Allen where she exudes enthusiasm over some evidence for a case they are working on. Both videos are available for viewing but only for users with the password to unlock the content.

According to a report from Cinema Blend, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) is rumored to have a new love interest named Wendy in season 2. The report continues to explain that Wendy might have been a casting call psuedonym for Patty Spivot. It will be a different spin since it was Iris (Candice Patton) who previously dated Joe West's partner and now it will be Barry Allen.

The report also points out that it will be a different dynamic for the character since Patty is normally portrayed as a crime lab worker and not someone often seen on the field. It is possible that she will start out as a field agent with Joe West and gradually shift to the lab, working together with Barry Allen.

The CW network and DC Entertainment have not yet confirmed that Patty and Wendy are indeed one and the same so it is still possible that these are entirely different characters. However, the report from Cinema Blend points out that the similarities in their character descriptions hint that they are the same person.

"The Flash" season 2 premieres this October.
