The fastest man alive will be back in less than three weeks, and to tease fans of what he will be up to when "The Flash" season 2 premieres, a synopsis for the episode, which is given the title "The Man Who Saved Central City," was released.

After what happened to Eddie in the past season, Barry no longer wants to put his loved ones in harm's way. The synopsis for the premiere tells how "Barry decides he needs to protect the city on his own."

Picking up months after the Singularity attacked Central City, Barry is still struggling to forgive himself for Eddie's death. Concerned about putting his friends in danger, Barry has pushed everyone away and has chosen to protect the city on his own. When a meta-human named Atom-Smasher attacks the city, Iris tells Barry that he needs to let his friends help him protect the citizens of Central City. Meanwhile, Cisco helps Joe with his Meta Task Force.

With Iris' convincing and the urgency brought about by the arrival of new villain Atom-Smasher, the Scarlet Speedster realizes that he needs a team.

In an interview with MTV, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed the bigger role Iris is taking on in "The Flash" season 2. Apparently, the journalist's way of moving on from his boyfriend's death is throwing herself to work and the occasional city-saving trouble as she tries to be the woman Eddie always wanted her to be.

Iris gets to do some risky ventures this season, which she did not experience in the show's freshman run because she knew nothing about Barry being The Flash. And with her best friend caught up with working alone, Kreisberg said that she will be the one who will bring the team back together.

"The Flash" season 2 premieres Oct. 6.
