'Flashpoint' release date, plot spoilers: Jeffrey Dean Morgan as film's Batman? Production to start soon

Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan in AMC's "The Walking Dead"AMC

While Ben Affleck is quite hesitant to reprise his role as Batman in the DC Extended Universe, there is one actor who is very much down to portray the Caped Crusader: Jeffrey Dean Morgan. The actor, who played Bruce Wayne's father, Thomas, in "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice," has long teased his desire to be the "Flashpoint" Batman, and he just reiterated that during a panel at Walker Stalker Con in New Jersey.

When asked whether he would ever consider acting in theater, Morgan ended up teasing his campaign for the role.

"There's a role in the DC Universe I've got my eye on," he said.

The actor has been very straightforward about how much he wants to play Batman. He has been nodding to the gig ever since Warner Bros. announced "Flashpoint," expressing his excitement on his social media accounts then staying mum and dodging Batman-related questions during interviews.

As much as fans want Morgan to snag the role, nothing is set in stone just yet. "Flashpoint" has no release date at the moment, and it is unclear if it will ever get one. The DCEU is currently undergoing a major shake-up following the disappointing critical and financial reception to "Justice League." The Flash actor Ezra Miller did suggest, though, that it is still happening. When asked about the status of the film, he responded: "We're starting it pretty soon, can't wait."

To recap, the five-issue "Flashpoint" mini-series saw the Scarlet Speedster run back time to save his mother, but screwed up the universe's timeline. In this alternate world, Bruce Wayne was the one killed by a mugger, resulting in Thomas Wayne becoming Gotham City's Batman. If the "Flashpoint" movie indeed goes toward this path, it would be quite the milestone since no character other than Bruce Wayne has yet to suit up as Batman on the big screen, despite several others having done so in the comics.
