Yahoo made the big announcement last weekend that version 3.2 of the Flickr app has been developed solely for the screens of Apple tablets, allowing users of the new Retina-display iPad to take pleasure in sharp, bright images.

The Flickr app can display images on the device's high-resolution screen "up to 3,000,000 pixels per photo," as stated by the company's official blog post. This can translate to approximately 2048 x 1056 pixels on such screen.

As pointed out by Flickr community manager Kay Kremerskothen in a post on the Flickr blog, users can now browse their feed using landscape or portrait modes with images "cascading in a lovely waterfall format."

Aside from using the new app to build a profile, users can easily put in their own avatar, background photo, introduction and link to their websites. The software also provides a new search function to help users find photos in their own collections or in others'.

Besides taking pictures and making the most of live filters, the Flickr app version 3.2 comes with a live histogram, which is a photo exposure graph that can typically be seen on digital SLRs. Users can then check out how their photos would look like before pressing the shutter button.

When it comes to the iPhone version, the Flickr app has been integrated with photo-taking functionality which can be utilized often by iPad Air 2 users.

The main site for Flickr was originally launched in 2004 before Yahoo's acquisition after a year. These days, aside from major overhauls in the Flickr mobile apps and a new design for the website, new services for photography enthusiasts have also been made available.

Flickr for iPad has been developed in 11 languages which users can now download through iTunes.  The app has been optimized for iPhone 5, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, and requires iOS 8 or later.
