Floyd Mayweather Jr. next fight rumors: Mayweather will outwit Gennady Golovkin, says Freddie Roach [VIDEO]

Freddie Roach has been known to come out with daring forecasts and here is something interesting.

It does not directly involve his boy Manny Pacquiao, although it could eventually reach that point. But with time an essence, his call right now is close to just simple wishful thinking.

The forecast has something to do with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Gennady Golovkin. Before Mayweather retired, Golovkin came out in the open and presented himself as a possible opponent. Mayweather eventually opted to fight Andre Berto back in September.

But for the sake of argument that a Mayweather vs. Golovkin happened, Roach feels that Triple G would get outboxed by Mayweather just the same. However, considering the devastation that Golokvin has had with no loss to show, some find it hard to believe, although such is not remote.

"I know Golovkin's a pretty good puncher, but I'm sure Floyd's faced a lot of good punchers in his lifetime from the amateurs to the pros. Not too many guys hurt him, so I would pick Floyd to win that fight," Roach said, via Fighthype.com.

Roach may have a pretty good argument here but nothing is impossible.

Golovkin has the power, without a doubt, but Mayweather has the defensive skills to fend that off. But what if it comes to the point that the power would be too much for Mayweather's defenses to hold?

So how is this tied up with Pacquiao?

Well, according to Boxingnews.24.com, Roach could be making these calls because he is still hoping Mayweather considers a rematch with Pacquiao. The idea seems sheepish and from the looks of it, a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao rematch is good as dead.

Be as it may, it is a call that may not materialize anyway since Mayweather is retired. And seeing how dangerous Triple G is, it doesn't seem likely that Mayweather would risk his clean slate against a power-punching monster named Golovkin.
