Amir Khan added another victory under his belt Friday beating Chris Algieri via unanimous decision at the Barclays Center in New York and has now said he wants to take on the undefeated Floyd Mayweather next.

Despite getting stunned in the early moments of the fight and having a slow start, Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) found his rhythm later in the match and bested Algieri (20-2, 8 KOs) who suffered his second consecutive setback following a November loss to Manny Pacquiao in Macau.

The judges scored it 117-111, 117-111 and 115-113 in favor of the 28-year-old British slugger.

"He came to fight, wanted to win, had his home crowd, but I came here to win," Khan said after the fight according to BBC Sports.

The victory is Khan's fifth consecutive and gives him a strong chance of making his dream bout with Mayweather a reality.

He has been a possible opponent for Mayweather in the past only getting ignored with the undefeated welterweight champion opting to fight Marcos Maidana twice and Pacquiao last month.

After a successful unanimous decision fight against Pacquiao, Mayweather (48-0, 26 KOs) is set to finish his career with a bout September to cap off his six-fight deal with CBS/Showtime.

Khan is the strongest candidate as Mayweather's next opponent and expressed his desire to end the streak after his fight against Algieri.

"Amir Khan wants to fight Floyd Mayweather. I want that next. I'm number one World Boxing Council [challenger]. He's the champion. So let's make it happen," Khan said according to BBC Sports.

But Khan added that while waiting for a fight with Mayweather, he could not pass on fighting Algieri.

"Everyone knows I would love to fight Floyd next, but when you wait for something this long and hope for it this long, it tends to set you back," Khan said in a report by ESPN.

"Because of that, I didn't want to look past Chris or any other fighter," he added.
