Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather fight: Koncz clarifies deadline talks

Initially, there were reports that Pacquiao's camp had given Floyd Mayweather Jr. up to the end of the month to decide on whether a fight between the two would happen in 2015. But Koncz clarified that they have put an end to the January deadline issue and that should no progress be made, the Filipino fighter may have to fight twice this year.

It will be recalled that Mayweather had initially given a date, May 2, 2015 as the potential day for both fighter to mix it up in the ring. However, a lot of issues concerning the day known to some as Cinco De Mayo (May 2, 2015) arose which somehow became an obstacle.

Apparently Top Rank boss Bob Arum considered the May 2 date as disrespectful since it was the weekend of Cinco De Mayo.

But all that aside, it looks like Pacquiao and trainer Freddie Roach are singing a different tune and are ready to rumble on the said date that Mayweather has chosen.

In an interview, both said that there will be no more issues if Mayweather continues to vouch for a May 2 mega bout.

"Importante lang, kailangan muna matuloy (The important thing is that the fight happens," said during the interview with ABS-CBN.

"I am. It needs to happen for both guys. I think we waited long enough," added Roach.

To date, there has been no progress and Mayweather's camp continues to be mum on the issue. The dream bout is something that is pretty much talked about these days and the official announcement is something expected to shock the world.

Should the Mayweather-Pacquiao tussle fail to materialize yet again, chances are Mayweather or Pacquiao could consider Amir Khan for their next opponent.

Mayweather has been criticized for avoiding Pacquiao and much of his tactics include adding stipulations and new demands. That includes getting a larger chunk of the prize money from the fight if ever.

Now if this new hype materializes, then that should be something different.
