Fans are still reeling over ABC's decision to cancel "Forever." The network dropped the ax on the series last May after its freshman season along with new comedy "Cristala," "The Taste," and "Resurrection." In the weeks after the decision was made, fans of the show came together to start petitions on social media to get the series picked up somewhere else.

However, it looks like season 2 is not going to happen as series creator Matt Miller took to Twitter on Tuesday, July 7, to tell fans that despite their best efforts, the drama will not be returning for another season.

"This is a hard message to write but I'm sorry to report that despite Warner Bros. best efforts they haven't been able to find a new home for 'Forever'," he tweeted.

Miller went on to say that despite the setback, it doesn't mean that they'll stop trying but he wanted to give fans "the real, although disheartening news." He also revealed that he was hesitant to reach out to the fans because he didn't want to believe that this was the end for the show.

"We had so much story left to tell, questions unanswered; romances unfulfilled; characters to introduce…But I suppose I was asking for trouble when I named the show 'Forever'," he continued.

"Forever" tells the story of an immortal man named Dr. Henry Morgan (Ioan Gruffudd) who works as a medical examiner and helps out the police in New York City. The series also takes a look at Henry's former lives and the way he's keeping his immortality a secret from those close to him. In the series finale, it looked as if Henry was going to finally tell his partner Jo (Alana de la Garza) the truth.

Miller ended his Twitter post by giving fans some hope that "Forever" could come back.

"Maybe some cable channel or streaming service will come to the obvious conclusion we all have… there's a great cast and crew there ready to get back to work," he said.
