Former "Sex and the City" star John Corbett is going to explore a different side in Hollywood by taking on a supporting role in the faith-based film, "God's Not Dead 3."

The film is titled, "God's Not Dead: A Light in Darkness," according to Deadline. The story revolves around Pastor Dave (producer David A.R. White) and the horrific tragedy he endures after a deadly fire rips through his St. James Church at Hadleigh University.

School leaders then use the tragedy to get the congregation off campus, so Pastor Dave has to overcome his inner turmoil in order to get the church to defend its rights. The tragedy also brings him back together with his estranged brother, Atty. Pierce (Corbett), who is an atheist. Somehow, the two brothers must learn to address the issues that tore them apart and find reconciliation.

In real life, Corbett was born and raised as a Christian, and his faith is something that he took with him even after he pursued an acting career. "I went to Catholic school for 12 years and I was an altar boy for about seven of those years," he told Fox News about his faith. "I spent a lot of time behind the scenes in churches." During the 80s, Corbett even tried being a born-again Christian, but he later returned to his Catholic roots.

"I have a strong belief in God," he explained, adding that he is a "gospel and brunch kind of guy." "Nothing says I love you Jesus more than gospel music and mashed 'potaters.'"

The original "God's Not Dead" was a surprise hit in 2014, since it grossed nearly $65 million worldwide despite only having $2 million budget. Its 2016 sequel, "God's Not Dead 2," did well too with $24.5 million. The third installment, "God's Not Dead: A Light in Darkness," will be released on March 30, 2018.
