'Formula Fusion' racing game: Makers of 'Wipeout' launch Test Pilot program for new futuristic game
The game developers responsible for the original PlayStation game "Wipeout" is coming up with a new futuristic racer gameplay that is touted as the "spiritual successor" to the 1995 released racing game.
The new game, titled "Formula Fusion," is said to have been inspired by "Wipeout 2097." It is being developed by a team called R8 Games, which was formed by several highly esteemed game veterans from Rockstar, Sony, and Team17. About 16 members of the group came from Psygnosis, the game developer and publisher of "Wipeout."
The game was first announced on Steam earlier this month, but it was originally called "Slam Jet."
The announcement on the website says, "Formula Fusion Racing takes the best elements of Wipeout and F Zero X and gives the genre some real bite, taking AG [anti-gravity – ed] Racing to the next level! The amount of speed you can gain is potentially open-ended; to the point of having an almost warp speed like quality."
The new futuristic racing video game will reportedly feature most of the things that "Wipeout" fans enjoyed during its release. It will also allegedly include weapons technology, as many as 22 tracks that are distributed over seven differently themed race zones, as well as local split-screen options for multiplayer modes.
There are also talks saying that the game will be released in virtual reality format, which could be compatible with Oculus Rift and other VR enabled devices.
"Formula Fusion" is still in its early pre-production phase, which means that there is limited information about the game at this stage. That is why any content or gameplay information that will be released about the game may not be conclusive to its final product.
Although the said video game will reportedly be enrolled in Kickstarter sometime in March, interested players can start buying the Test Pilot Program for "Formula Fusion" as early as now.
