'Fortnite: Battle Royale' server issues news: Epic explains reason behind log-in problems

Players of the massively online battle arena third-person shooter video game "Fortnite" should expect some server issues in the next few days. The game's developer, Epic, is currently optimizing its servers to ensure that players will be able to have a long-lasting hassle-free gaming experience in the long run. More importantly, Epic is making sure that its servers are as un-hackable as possible, to avoid cheaters from ruining the game for other players.

Epic addressed its concerned players over at their forum on Jan. 5 last week to shed some light on the log-in issues that they have been experiencing recently. They explained that their servers rely heavily on Cloud backup, which is very vulnerable to cyberattacks and manipulation. Epic duly informed players that the inconvenience may persist in the coming weeks, but assured that it is for the better good of the "Fortnite" community.

One of the other issues that the developers addressed was the level of susceptibility their Cloud-backed servers have to Meltdown  -- wherein servers shut down due to intense traffic. Given the growing number of players that are constantly logging on to "Fortnite," the likelihood of a Meltdown could be steadily increasing. Fixing the Meltdown issue does not guarantee that the game will be running smoothly, however, and other problems may arive thereafter.

After Epic has resolved these issues, players should expect a hefty amount of upcoming updates that will hopefully stabilize the ability to log in, as well as give the game more integrity by keeping their securities running at optimum levels. However, players were mainly frustrated because they could not log in and play the game during the special "Sneaky Silencers" event, which they were looking forward to.

Fortunately, players can expect that Epic will be hosting the event once more in order to make up for the server down time.
