Epic Games' "Fortnite: Battle Royale" will continue to experience server issues due to the updates required to protect against the recent Meltdown bug.

Players had trouble logging into the game in the past few days. Those who did manage to get into the server found themselves in a massive queue just to find a match.

Game developer Epic Games is aware of the issue and they had issued official statements over multiple posts in the official "Fortnite" forums.

According to the findings of the "Fortnite" team, they noticed that the server updates (which are required to protect against Meltdown) significantly impact the usage and workload of the processors. This leads to many problems, like massive lag, login instability, and long queues — problems that "Fortnite: Battle Royale" players are experiencing recently.

Although the updates are hard to implement and are causing severe inconveniences to the gaming experience, they are necessary. Meltdown and the other exploit Spectre are two of the most dangerous security flaws found in the past decade. The exploits work by allowing apps to access the computer's memory itself. This can potentially grant unrestricted control of the device to unauthorized parties.

Of the two security flaws, Meltdown is reportedly the easier to exploit and the easier to fix. This is why lots of patches and fixes have already been released for it.

Meltdown and Spectre reportedly affects all processors made in the past twenty years.

In any case, updating "Fortnite: Battle Royale" servers is a necessity Epic Games need to go over with, even if it induces major inconveniences to lots of players.

The development team knows this, too, and they already announced in advance that players should expect more instabilities in the coming weeks.

Hopefully, the processors will balance out the workload in the near future. Epic Games would need to find a way for the servers to work optimally with the Meltdown fixes.
