Initially scheduled to arrive in October 2016, Gun Media's "Friday the 13th: The Game" is now slated for a May release.

The release date was announced with a new trailer, giving fans a look at the horrific executions and customization options in the game. Fans also get to see series character Tommy Jarvis, who is known as the first person to ever kill the villainous Jason Vorhees. He appears to have a gun, though it is not quite clear how he will fit into the story.

"Friday the 13th: The Game" started out as a Kickstarter campaign initiated by "Friday the 13th" alumni Tom Savini, Sean S. Cunningham, Kane Hodder, and Harry Manfredini. The horror game centers on Jason versus Counselor scenes, which allows players to choose either Jason of camp counselor as their character.

In the multiplayer mode, players must fight as Jason against up to seven counselors of Camp Crystal Lake. Those who opt to take on the role of Jason have the chance to play various versions of the pyscho killer from various films. Each Jason has his own unique skills which gamers can try out.

Counselors, on the other hand, have many ways to escape Jason while in Camp Crystal Lake. It obviously will not be a walk in the park, even if they decide to work together. Players must use their different strengths such as trap building and repairing, among others, to survive.

Three maps can be explored: Camp Crystal Lake, Higgins Haven, and Packanack Lodge. Upon the game's release, only the multiplayer mode will be available. Gun Media will then introduce a single-player mode this summer as a free update.

Developed by Gun Media and Illfonic, "Friday the 13th: The Game" will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows PC platforms starting May 26.
