'Frozen 2' sequel news: Anna, Elsa to debut on Broadway stage before sequel comes out

It seems Disney Pictures wants to make the perfect follow-up film to the worldwide blockbuster hit movie "Frozen," no matter how long it takes.

Early this year, Disney CEO Robert Iger told Fortune magazine that they are planning to make "Frozen" a full-blown franchise, which will include the highly anticipated sequel that was announced in March. However, Iger said that fans of the musical animation might have to wait a while before they see the "Frozen 2" movie on the big screen since the production outfit wants to make sure that the sequel can match the excellence of the first film.

"We're not demanding speed," Iger said. "We're demanding excellence."

But various news sites are now speculating that "Frozen 2" might come out in 2018.

Crossmap recently reported that Disney's movie line-up is already full for the next couple of years. In December this year, the movie outfit will release "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" under LucasFilms. Then they are planning to release two new animated movies next year, namely "Moana" and "Zootopia." Disney's Pixar Studios is also planning to come up with other animation movies like "Good Dinosaur" and "Inside Out" soon. This means that "Frozen 2's" release schedule is likely to be pushed after all these films come out.

Since the company admitted that the sequel is still in the early stage of development, the plot is still undetermined. However, VC Post reported several speculations about how the movie will play out. According to the post, the sequel may feature the wedding of Princess Anna and Kristoff in Arendelle, while Queen Elsa remains loveless and chooses to focus on running the kingdom instead. There are also reports that Olaf the snowman and Kristoff's trusted reindeer Sven will be the central characters in the upcoming film.

While fans wait for the full-length "Frozen 2" movie, Disney seems to be determined in keeping their interest up. The company released a short film titled "Frozen Fever" alongside the live-action "Cinderella" movie in March this year. Live-action versions of Anna and Elsa were also featured in the fourth season of ABC's popular fairytale TV series "Once Upon a Time," while a Broadway musical version of the film is also being developed for a 2016 premiere.
