'Frozen 2' spoilers: Sequel to feature light-sided and happier Elsa

"Frozen 2" is still being developed with no finished script confirmed but co-director Chris Buck revealed in an interview with Fandango that the second film will see the return of the more cheerful version of Elsa (Idina Menzel), who was portrayed as a lonesom, angry character in the first film.

While the film opened with a young Elsa who was just as happy and carefree as her sister Anna (Kristen Bell), the former became withdrawn and seclusive after the latter fell sick due to Elsa's powers. It wasn't until the very end of the movie and in the short film follow-up, "Frozen Fever" that fans were able to see Elsa's lighter side.

"In 'Frozen' she had such a dramatic journey, and at the end she's just starting to feel like she can open up and have some fun again," he explained. "That's what was really good about the short - we could have fun with Elsa. And that personality... you will see in the next one."

Buck also confirmed that he and co-director Jennifer Lee have an overall idea or concept of what the second film will be about, although he also iterated that they are still in the early stages of development. One thing that the film will retain other than showcasing Elsa's lighter side is the dynamics between Elsa and Anna.

Speaking to MTV, Buck stated that like the first film, "Frozen 2" will focus on the two main leads while also tackling "other issues" that are boys and girls and men and women alike are all dealing with today.

"When the kids watch them, they watch them over and over again, and if we don't have a decent message in there, I think we've missed an opportunity," he explained.

Buck did not confirm if this meant "Frozen 2" will tackle issues such as same-sex relationships as some rumors are suggesting.

"Frozen 2" currently has no release date but the film is expected to release between 2017 and 2018.
