It is already confirmed that a sequel to the 2013 animated hit film "Frozen" is in the works. However, speculations suggest that instead of a continuation, the new installment will showcase a new story and new cast members.

According to Gamenguide, reports have mentioned that the original characters from the first film, particularly Anna, Elsa, and Olaf, will not be returning for the sequel. Should this prove true, this means that "Frozen 2" will take on a new meaning, since the trio are the main characters of the franchise. If this is the case, the sequel will most likely take on a new direction, with new characters and story.

Dovetailing with the rumor is that since the main characters will not be returning for the sequel, Disney will ultimately cancel "Frozen 2," though not completely, since the first film has been a huge success. Instead, it is said that Disney is thinking of airing a direct-to-TV special slated for next year's holiday season, instead of completing pulling the plug off the project. In addition, since "Frozen 2" will be a TV special, it will be put into the back burner for the moment, as Disney will supposedly shift its focus for other upcoming full-feature movies top-billed by stars, particularly "Beauty and the Beast" for Emma Watson, and "The Little Mermaid" starring Chloe Grace Moretz.

However, it remains to be seen if the cancellation or the story change will come to pass. To date, it is said that production for "Frozen 2," although a bit delayed, is still on-going. Interestingly, both Kristen Bell (voice of Anna) and Idina Menzel (Elsa) are said to be part of the project.

The original "Frozen" film released in 2013 and has been a huge success for moviegoers, even extending its success to the film's soundtrack, especially "Let it Go."
