After months of speculation, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have finally decided that they will not be joining the revival of the hit '80s sitcom "Full House." In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Robert L. Boyett confirmed that the twins, who shared the role of Michelle in the original TV series, will not be a part of "Fuller House," which will premiere on Netflix next year. 

"I know how much 'Full House' has meant to them and they are still very much considered family," said the show boss. "It has been exciting to see how they have built their professional careers, and I support their choice to focus on their fashion brands and business endeavors. I appreciate their effort and good wishes towards 'Fuller House'." 

Following the statement's release, John Stamos, who played Uncle Jesse in "Full House," immediately took to social media to tweet that he is "heartbroken" about the twins' decision. 

"I understand they're in a different place and I wish them the best," the actor tweeted on Friday, May 22.

Set to star in "Fuller House" are Candace Cameron-Bure, Jodi Sweetin, and Andrea Barber, who will reprise their respective roles as D.J., Stephanie, and Kimmy Gibbler. The show will focus on the next generation of the Tanners. 

Stamos will produce and reprise his role as Uncle Jesse in a guest role. Dave Coulier will also return as Uncle Joey. Talks are reportedly underway to bring back original stars Lori Loughlin and Bob Saget. 

The premise of the show focuses on D.J. dealing with the challenges of being a widow while raising two boys. Her best friend Kimmy and sister Stephanie will move in to help her out. 

The participation of the Olsen twins have been very much in question from the beginning, especially after they said no one had told them about the revival until after Stamos announced it on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" in April. 

Neither Mary-Kate nor Ashley has acted recently. The former's last role was in 2011's "Beastly" while the latter stopped acting after 2010's "I'm Still Here." Their sister, Elizabeth, is now considered as the thespian in the family as she has gone on to star in movies such as this year's Avengers: Age of Ultron." 

Nowadays, the Olsen twins are focused on their award-winning fashion lines, The Row and Elizabeth and James.

"Fuller House" will premiere on Netflix in 2016.
