Samsung Galaxy TabPro S vs. iPad Air 3 specs comparison: Battle of 2016 tablet editions

Samsung Newsroom

One of the surprises for this year's Consumer Electronics Show was Samsung's announcement of the TabPro S. How will this new tablet stack against another expected 2016 addition, Apple's much-anticipated iPad Air 3?

Design

The new Samsung Galaxy TabPro S, like other hybrid tablets in its category, is an ultra-portable and lightweight 2-in-1 that has a full-sized keyboard cover with its own touchpad. In addition, the cover itself also doubles as a kickstand when in tablet mode.

Meanwhile, in terms of its body, Tech Times listed the TabPro S dimensions at 11.5 inches x 7.8 inches x 0.24 inches, all of it under 1.5 pounds.

Meanwhile, although the 2-in-1 hybrid category is already claimed by the recently released iPad Pro, some observers said that the new iPad Air might be placed as an entertainment-focused tablet instead. A keyboard and/or stand cover might also be added by the Cupertino-based company as an accessory. In terms of design and build, it is thought that although the build will be similar to its predecessor, the iPad Air 3 might come out with a thinner profile and with other design tweaks.

Under the hood

According to Dongjin Ko, president and head of Mobile Communications Business at Samsung, the new Galaxy TabPro S "balances the best of Samsung's Galaxy Tab with the wealth of features on the Windows 10 operating system for the most advanced tablet experience on the market."

For seamless experience, the new Galaxy tablet features the new sixth-generation Intel Core M chipsets paired with 4 GB of RAM, and the new hybrid has 128- and 256-GB internal storage options. The Galaxy TabPro S is the first Windows 10-powered tablet to support LTE Cat 6 connectivity.

Meanwhile, the iPad Air 3 is predicted to carry an A9X processor with at least 2 to 4 GB of RAM. In terms of storage, the upcoming iPad Air will offer 16-, 32-, and 128-GB memory options. According to The Bit Bag, a leaner iOS and performance-focused specs means that the iPad Air 3 might also come out with a longer battery life and better daylight visibility for its display.
