It is safe to say that everyone in the video game industry waited in anticipation of the nomination outcomes.

The nominees for this year's The Game Awards did not surprise anybody. The ceremony, which was created and hosted by video game personality Geoff Keighley, has been viewed by either being the award show for video games or just as a marketing tool. In spite of those views, fans were still elated to have their favorite video games nominated. "Horizon Zero Dawn" bagged the most nomination like Game of the Year. Other video games that are up for that category include "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," "Super Mario Odyssey," "Persona 5," and "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds."

Like in the past The Game Awards, there has been a lot of discussion on different social media platforms about the nominations and the video games that snagged one. Kurt Margenau who is a game developer at Naughty Dog and has his video game up for nomination went to Twitter to talk about certain categories of the awards ceremony like the Most Anticipated Game.

He stressed that it is a bit unclear how the category chooses its nominees since casting votes for a particular game will not make the publisher release it any sooner, making its relevance moot. One of the video games included in the category has only one teaser trailer while those that have released their full gameplay trailers were completely ignored.

The Game Awards was formerly hosted by Spike TV until Keighey went on to produce his own independent award ceremony. Ever since its formation in 2014, the video games have been selected by a secret panel of judges, with the public's vote being partially added to determine the winner.

It may be apparent that there are still some problems with The Game Awards and how it determines its nominees, but everyone is in agreement that it is the only award show that the community has. The only thing that they can do right now is to wait to see better representation and clearer rules.
