George R.R. Martin denies 'Game of Thrones' movie rumors

The Daily Star recently reported that a "Game of Thrones" movie was in development although it would not have any crucial involvement from George R.R. Martin, who authored the books the HBO series is based on.  However, Martin has now taken to his personal blog to deny a movie is currently in the works.

"Yes, completely false," Martin explains when asked about the interview by Daily Star. "No one is working on any movie just now. And if there was a movie, it would not be about Robert's Rebellion."

The original report stated that the alleged movie would be a means of bringing back some of the characters who died on the show, such as Lord Eddard Stark (Sean Bean). This has led to the speculation that a movie would be about Robert Baratheon's (Mark Addy) rebellion against the Targaryens, and even that takes place roughly 13 years prior to the main series.

According to the Daily Star, Martin himself confirmed that a film was in the works but it was going to be spearheaded by "Game of Thrones" showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss. The report also said that Benioff confirmed that "Game of Thrones" would not extend to ten or more seasons.

However, Martin's statements immediately shoot these reports down. Not only that but a report from BuzzFeed has also been able to get an official statement from HBO, and the studios themselves confirm that there is no movie currently in development and that at this point there are no plans for one.

Martin is, however, confirmed to be working on the sixth book of the series titlted "The Winds of Winter." The book will also become the basis of "Game of Thrones" season 6, and both are expected to release early 2016. Fans hope that in order to avoid big plot spoilers, the book would release prior to the premiere of the show's sixth season.
