'Game of Thrones' news: Stannis Baratheon actor had no clue what was happening on the set

Stephen Dillane as Stannis Baratheon on the set of "Game of Thrones"HBO

It seems Jon Snow is not the only one who knew nothing in Westeros. Apparently, despite Stannis Baratheon's (Stephen Dillane) convincing character, the actor was just going with the flow during filming, as Dillane has claimed that he was not aware of what his scenes were about in the hit HBO television series "Game of Thrones."

Dillane has stated that he failed to understand what some of the scenes were about, particularly due to their fantasy setting, which the 60-year-old actor was not invested in. He also stated that he mostly relied on his co-star Lian Cunningham, who plays Ser Davos Seaworth, as a guide to explain to him what was going on in the set.

"Liam Cunningham is so passionate about the show. He invests in it in a way I think is quite moving, but it wasn't my experience. I was entirely dependent on Liam to tell me what the scenes were about — I didn't know what I was doing until we'd finished filming and it was too late. The damage had been done. I thought no one would believe in me and I was rather disheartened by the end. I felt I'd built the castle on non-existent foundations," said Dillane in an interview.

However, his sentiment towards himself as Stannis is not shared by his fans, as most of them think that he actually did a great job as one of the most formidable of the Baratheon brothers. Dillane has even admitted watching the show by himself after he left production just to see and understand what was his scenes and the story were all about, but to no avail. He still failed to grasp what his part in the show was.

Dillane has been part of the show for a significant amount of time, from his appearance in season 2 to his apparent death in season 5 where he was killed by Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) after his feeble siege against the Boltons. His actual death or his corpse was not revealed though, as the scene had faded to another before viewers could see Brienne's sword striking him.

Whether he is still alive or coming back to the show is not known, though he would probably need a lot of catching up on the story if that's the case.
