Last Sunday's "Game of Thrones" season 5 finale plunged a dagger into the collective hearts of fans of the show as one of its most loved characters, Jon Snow, appeared to have met his end in the conclusion of the episode. Seeing as Jon always had to deal with opposition from the Night's Watch, it was inevitable that a confrontation of sorts was going to happen, but Jon's death was a shocker, especially since it was Olly, Jon's young steward, who was responsible for delivering the final blow. 

Entertainment Weekly sat down with actor Kit Harington to talk about the season finale plot twist, and to confirm if Jon Snow is truly dead. 

Harington said that he had an inkling that the end was coming for his character Jon, and while he didn't read George R.R. Martin's novel "A Dance of Dragons," the actor said that he read the other books and he heard about what happens to his character. 

"I had an inkling it would be this season. I didn't realize it would be the final shot of the season and that made it extra special," he said. 

When asked about Jon's biggest mistake, Harington said that the character was always looking at the big picture and was not paying attention to the people around him, which was quite similar to what Jon's father, Ned Stark, did when he was trying to do the right thing. 

"He wasn't seeing their discontent and dealing with the smaller issues," said Harington of Olly, Ser Alliser Thorne, and the rest of the Night's Watch. "And because of that, he's served justice." 

But the question is, is Jon Snow really dead? Sadly for fans of the character, Harington said that Jon won't be coming back when the show returns next year. 

"Quite honestly, I've never been told the future of things in the show, but this one time I have. They sat me down and told me, 'This is how it is'," said the actor. 

Harington said that if anything in the future says otherwise, it's only in the "Game of Thrones" producers' heads and Martin's upcoming books that Jon could possibly be alive. 

"But I've been told I'm dead. I'm dead," he said. "I'm not coming back next season."
