The season 5 finale of "Game of Thrones" saw a lot of shocking scenes unravel such as Theon Greyjoy finally helping Sansa Stark, Cersei's Walk of Shame, and Jon Snow's death at the hands of his fellow Brothers of the Night's Watch. While the show is full of surprises, one thing that seems to be certain at this point is that Jon Snow is dead. 

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, actor Kit Harington discussed his experience with showrunners David Benoiff and Dan Weiss when he learned that this would be his character's last season on the show. The actor explained that he has not yet read the actual scene from the books the show is based on but he was aware of how Jon Snow dies. 

The actor continued to explain that the showrunners gave him the "Tony Soprano" walk, which is basically the talk the producers give any actor when their character is going to get killed off. During this talk, they confirmed that Jon Snow was going to die but Harington was not aware that Snow's death would be the last scene of season 5. 

When asked if the character may return, Harrington replied "I've been told I'm dead. I'm dead. I'm not coming back next season. So that's all I can tell you, really." 

This was then echoed by Weiss, who told Entertainment Weekly that "dead is dead," which is why Catelyn Stark has not been resurrected in the show. In the books, the Stark matriarch dies but is resurrected by Thoros of Myr and now calls herself Lady Stoneheart. 

The only character that has truly been shown to die and come back in "Game of Thrones" is Ser Beric Dondarrion. In season 3, he was slain by the Hound but was later revived by the red priest Thoros. 

Fans of the books speculate that Melisandre, who is at the Wall during the time of Jon Snow's death, would revive him, thereby freeing him of his oath from the Night's Watch. However, this has not yet occurred in the books and it may never happen in the show.
