'Game of Thrones' season 6 plot rumors: Brynden Tully to return?

Game of Thrones - Brynden TullyHBO

Brynden Tully aka the Blackfish (Clive Russell) was last in "Game of Thrones" season 3 where he was able to leave the Red Wedding before any of the killings occurred. The character hasn't been seen since but according to a report from Los Siete Reinos (via Watchers on the Wall), the Blackfish will be back in season 6.

The report cites that the actor has been spotted filming scenes on the set in Corbet, Northern Ireland. Not only that but also spotted on the set were Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Jerome Flynn, who play Jaime Lannister and Ser Bronn, respectively.

This has led many to believe that season 6 will have the Siege of Riverrun, an event that occured in the fifth book of the series, "A Dance with Dragons." Further proving this speculation is the fact that the sightings are said to include Tully firing flaming arrows at the Lannister army.

One of the bigger twists and changes involves Bronn's involvement. Bronn's involvement in the main series of events toned down in the latter books but in the series HBO has been developing his relationship with Jaime Lannister now that the former no longer has Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) around.

In the books, Jaime Lannister never went to Dorne and instead was sent directly to Riverrun to defeat Tully and capture the castle. It was during this time that he received word of Cersei's (Lena Headey) imprisonment and trial. Instead of heading home to aid her, he continued to push forward with the siege against Riverrun.

His story ends with a sudden reunion with Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie), who tells him Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) has been found. It is unclear if this last plot arc will also be adapted in the series given that Brienne and Sansa are both currently in Winterfell.

"Game of Thrones" season 6 is set to premiere in Spring 2016.
