It was previously reported that Ian McShane was cast for "Game of Thrones" season 6 and that he may be playing Euron Greyjoy or Randyll Tarly, roles that have since been confirmed to go to Pilou Asbaek and James Faulkner. However, in an interview with Pop Goes the News McShane did give a crucial hint about his character.

"I'll give you one hint," McShane teased. "I am responsible for bringing somebody back that you think you're never going to see again. I'll leave it at that."

According to a report from Screen Rant, there are three possibilities regarding who McShane is playing and who his character will bring back to the show.

The first two options state he may be a new character that will bring back Jon Snow (Kit Harington) or he may be a member of the Brotherhood Without Banners and will revive Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley) as Lady Stoneheart. However, it is also cited that the likelihood of either is very low.

A third option, which is also stated to be the most likely of the three, is that McShane may be playing Septon Meribald or the Elder Brother. It is also possible he will be playing a new character that merges the two together. These two are members of the Brothers of the Quiet Isle, a small sect that is part of the Faith of the Seven religion in Westeros.

In the books, particularly in "A Feast for Crows," the two characters hint that a severely wounded Ser Sandor Clegane aka the Hound (Rory McCann) was treated by the Brothers of the Quiet Isle. It is hinted but never fully explained that Sandor "died" and later reborn, possibly hinting that he sheds away his violent past to become a sober, peaceful man.

The Hound's helmet is later found and used by bandits raiding the Riverlands.

"Game of Thrones" season 6 will premiere early 2016.
