'Game of Thrones' Season 5 finale: Spoilers; Cersei's penance, Stannis' siege, Sansa Stark and Jon Snow's fate

Game of Thrones Season 5 is nearing its end; only one more episode remains. The season's finale, episode 10, 'Mother's Mercy,' will air this Sunday, June 14. Following the events on episode 9, 'The Dance of Dragons,' the coming episode is bound to highlight events at the Wall, in Winterfell, in King's Landing and in the City of Mereen. This falls in line with the episode synopsis posted on IMDB for 'Mother's Mercy', which features Stannis marching his army, Cersei seeking forgiveness, Daenerys being surrounded by strangers and Jon Snow getting challenged.

Last Sunday's episode, 'The Dance of Dragons', contained events, which are not in George R.R. Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' (ASOIAF); the sacrifice of Shireen in particular. In the final episode's trailer, Stannis is shown to be in front of his men whilst pulling out his sword as if to start a battle. This comes after Melisandre declared that the Lord of Light has made good on his promise. As revealed in the excerpts of The Winds of Winter, the sixth book installment of the ASOIAF series, Stannis was able to secure a foothold in the North, but yet to defeat the Boltons. He managed to secure "Sansa Stark" and send her to the wall as repayment for the kindness Jon Snow did him. This event of rescuing Sansa is also hinted in the trailer with Brienne and Podrick's appearance.

The episode synopsis for 'Mother's Mercy,' as well as the trailer, also hints of Cersei Lannister's confession before the high septon. In season 5 final episode's trailer, Cersei was shown on to be kneeling while her voice overlay said, "I was lonely and afraid." In ASOIAF's fifth book, A Dance of Dragons, Cersei takes the penance walk, in which she was naked, to the entrance of the Red Keep. The progression of events for Cersei in the TV series coincides with that of the books. Her walk of shame is expected to happen in the coming finale.

In the trailer, Arya Stark is shown to be staring at a face within the crypts of the House of Black and White. During last Sunday's episode, Arya stalked Meryn Trant into a brothel after she saw him with get off a boat in the port of Braavos. In the coming episode, it is likely that she will exact revenge the knight who killed her dancing master, Syrio Forel. This is in line with her storyline in ASOIAF, where she goes blind after killing Meryn Trant.

Jon Snow, in ;The Dance with Dragons;, successfully led the wildings across the Wall but faced many of his disappointed Night's Watch brothers. In the coming episode, based on the synopsis, Jon is said to be challenged. If the finale stays faithful to the books, Jon Snow will get stabbed this Sunday and possibly get killed. This will be one of the most significant events ever since the Red Wedding.

Be sure to catch the Game of Thrones season 5 finale episode on Sunday, June 14 on HBO. Alternatively, it can be watched online through live stream with HBO GO.
