When "Game of Thrones" aired its shocking season five finale last year, fans of the series wasted no time in coming up with numerous theories about the fate of some of the show's characters, particularly Jon Snow (Kit Harington).

Back in the finale, Jon was stabbed by members of the Night's Watch and was left bleeding on the ground. While previous deaths in the series were similarly met with shock and outrage, many were convinced that Jon wasn't truly dead.

Ahead of the season 6 premiere, the show's creators and actors have either stayed mum about Jon's fate or maintained that he is dead, with Harington himself even telling Entertainment Weekly after the finale that the fan-favorite character is truly gone.

"I've been told I'm dead. I'm dead," Harington told EW back in June. "I'm not coming back next season."

However, set photos released by "Game of Thrones" community site Watchers on the Wall appear to confirm that not only will Jon Snow be back but he will also participate in an epic battle in the North. Moreover, HBO's recent promo of the show puts the character front and center, and now fans are truly convinced that Jon will be back for another season on the hit series.

Recently, "GOT" actress Maisie Williams talked about Jon Snow on the red carpet of the London Film Critics' Circle Awards (via Vanity Fair), and the star had this to say about whether the character is dead or alive.

"I feel so mean because I speak to people and they're all like 'Jon Snow, is he back?' and it's like really heartbreaking because people are like, 'yeah, but he's coming back though?' It's a great twist but I can't say he's going to be alive," she said.

One of the most persistent theories regarding Jon Snow's return is that Melisandre, a follower of the red god R'hllor, will bring him back to life using blood magic.
