It was previously reported that "Game of Thrones" season 7 has been delayed due to the need of the production to have snow given that the series is now set in winter, requiring even the southern locations on the show to have snow. Fortunately, the delay won't be too long as it is now confirmed that filming will commence this January 2017.

According to a report from Visir (courtesy of Watchers on the Wall), filming will begin in Iceland this coming January. It is pointed out that there are no confirmations that the information is true. Despite this, it is still possible due to the fact that "Game of Thrones" did film in Iceland before, particularly for the scenes that took place beyond the Wall. 

Winter is Coming states that the main scenes being filmed will follow the perspective of six major characters. It is almost a given that some scenes will follow Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) but it is also possible that Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) as she is currently making her way up north.

It is also stated that the Brotherhood Without Banners, led by Beric Dondarrion (Richard Dormer), Thoros of Myr (Paul Kaye) and Sandor Clegane aka the Hound (Rory McCann) are all heading to the North as well. The Brotherhood is aware of the impending doom of the White Walkers and may be joining to aid in the fight.

The reports state that Winterfell and its surrounding areas are set to be filmed in Winter, as they have been in the past, but there are possibilities that areas like King's Landing and Riverrun may also be set with snow given that in season 6 it has been established that Winter is reaching the south. This is said as a sign of true Winter and not just "summer snow."
