Hollywood singer Ed Sheeran has enjoyed a successful music career, but things did not go well when he got a cameo role in HBO's popular TV series, "Game of Thrones." He recently revealed that fans surely do not want to see him come back for "Game of Thrones" season 8, stating that his character was probably due for an early death.

The singer made a brief appearance in the seventh season premiere, where he played one of several Lannister soldiers Arya met on her way to King's Landing. The scene was, apparently, sweet and poignant, as Arya reconnected with her humanity, and the viewers were reminded that enemy warriors were mostly just normal people caught up in a conflict bigger than they were.

For some reason, fans freaked out seeing the chart-topping singer-songwriter taking a minor role on a television show. Talking to MTV News, Sheeran commented on his cameo and predicted his character's chances of survival going forward. He said, "We were all quite young, those soldiers. I doubt I'm going to survive for that long, to be honest, when there are dragons in the world."

Sheeran also shared his thought about the backlash he received following his performance on the show. He said about his possible return for "Game of Thrones" season 8: "No one wants to see me come back. I wanted to be a cameo in it, and I've done the cameo. I'm cool with it, though. I enjoyed it."

His surprise appearance was not exactly well-received by fans, prompting show's director Jeremy Podeswa to come to Sheeran's defense. He told Newsweek at the time, "He came into this with only lovely intentions to come and do a good job and sing well. So I think that's the only drag."

The director added that if people really do not know Sheeran, they would not have thought about it twice. He explained, "The hoo-ha seems to be from things that are outside of the world of the show. In the world of the show, he did a lovely job, and he looks like he belongs in that world."

It can be remembered that the singer deleted his Twitter account after the episode aired, leading to speculations that the move was a result of the backlash. On his Instagram post, he addressed the issue and denied the rumors. Meanwhile, "Game of Thrones" season 8 release date remains unknown — with some outlets suggesting that it might be in 2019.
