'Game of Thrones' season 8 rumors: Maisie Williams denies release date slip, says it was 'completely false'

Maisie Williams just shot down a rumor circling around a statement of hers that revealed when exactly "Game of Thrones" season 8 would premiere in 2019.

It has been known for a while that the final season of the HBO series would arrive sometime in the said year. The specific month and date have yet to be confirmed, but Metro UK recently quoted the actress revealing, "We wrap in December and we air our first episode in April [2019]."

The report got picked up by numerous outlets including big entertainment publications, hyping up fans all over the world. However, Williams just set the record straight that while the quote was not completely made-up, it comes from an old interview somehow retrofitted to apply in season 8.

Taking it to Twitter to clear up the discrepancy, the actress, who plays Arya Stark in the show, said: "Just a tweet letting you know this game of thrones release date "quote" I've supposedly given is completely false and taken from an interview I did years ago."

This brings everyone back pretty much to square one in terms of figuring out when "Game of Thrones" would return for season 8. However, Williams clarifying the quote does not necessarily mean that an April 2019 release cannot happen.

It is worth noting that almost any season of the show has premiered in that month or earlier of each year. The only exception is season 7 which aired July last year due to filming restrictions. Plus, from what Sansa Stark actress Sophie Turner said last month, the show will likely wrap up production by summer. That leaves more than enough time for the post-production to be completed in time for the April 2019 release.

For now, fans can only keep their fingers crossed. Until HBO confirms the exact date, "Game of Thrones" season 8's release will remain guesswork.
