'Game of Thrones' season 8 spoilers: Details on first scene revealed

The Night King in "Game of Thrones"HBO

There is not much known about "Game of Thrones" season 8 yet, but potential details about the first scene of the finale may have just been revealed.

Production is currently centered in Ireland, which has served as the location for some parts of the North, south of the wall like Winterfell, the lands of Eyerie, and Riverlands. Most are shot in Moneyglass, Northern Ireland where the location set of House Stark's castle has been rebuilt this season. Jon Snow actor Kit Harington has just been spotted arriving back this week, suggesting the first scenes could be set in the North.

Watchers of the Wall is reporting that it is indeed the case, but things will not kick off in Winterfell or other big landmarks. The prologue scene for the opening episode will be set in a small village located right outside Winterfell called the Winter Town.

The place has been featured several times on the show. For those who do not remember, Winter Town is where Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) snuck off from the main royal caravan of King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) to visit the local brothel in the pilot episode of the first season. It is also where Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) and Podrick (Daniel Portman) waited for Sansa (Sophie Turner) to put up a candle in the broken tower during season 5.

As explained in the novels, the publication notes the village has a seasonal population, with autumn and winter months drawing more people to ride out the harsh weather. As to what exactly happens in the town in the first scene remains to be seen, but there are a few theories fans could consider. It could simply be Jon and Daenerys' (Emilia Clarke) arrival to Winterfell, riding through the winter town; or the first attack of the Night King's army after they breached the Wall in the season 7 finale.

The possibilities are endless, but as usual, fans cannot really confirm anything until the show returns to HBO. "Game of Thrones" season 8 has no exact release date yet, but it is confirmed to return sometime in 2019.
