Gateway Church Pastor Robert Morris starts recovery at home following four emergency surgeries
Gateway Church founding Pastor Robert Morris has been released from the hospital after undergoing several surgeries.
Morris had undergone four surgeries in just seven days for a hernia and abdominal bleeding caused by tears to three blood vessels. Last week, doctors found that he is also suffering from pneumonia.
More than 250,000 people had prayed for the pastor after his wife, Debbie, sent out an appeal on social media last week.
On Saturday, Debbie took to social media again to reveal that Morris was getting ready to leave the hospital and start his recovery at home. The post included a photo of Morris resting in bed while watching a video of their church service.
"Praise Be To God! I love that we could attend church even from the hospital. Here's the scoop: @psrobertmorris is getting out of the hospital tomorrow!" Debbie wrote on Instagram.
She said her husband is now "out of danger," but he still has months to go before he can fully recover.
She described the doctors, paramedics and nurses who cared for her husband as "ministering angels" who were a "part of saving his life." She also thanked her church family and the Christians who prayed for her husband's recovery.
"Our church family and the entire body of Christ. You have been so truly amazing. We have felt so loved. Your prayers have been so important—they mattered," she added.
In another Instagram post on Sunday, Debbie informed her followers that her husband has been released from the hospital.
"We are out of the hospital!@psrobertmorris fell asleep sitting up while I was getting us settled. A week ago, I wasn't sure if I would have this luxury. So to say I am grateful, well....that is an understatement. God is so good!" Debbie wrote.
According to the Star-Telegram, Morris underwent surgery for a hernia on April 2, and was taken to a hospital on April 8 to treat complications from the hernia operation. Doctors then performed emergency surgery to stop the internal bleeding.
Morris founded Gateway Church in 2000 and the congregation has grown to more than 39,000 worshippers since that time. In addition to leading the church, Morris has also written 14 books, including "The Blessed Life," "Truly Free," and "Frequency."
The pastor also hosts a radio program, as well as a daily and weekly television program that can be seen in more than 190 countries.
