Model Gigi Hadid and pop star Zayn Malik have confirmed that they have broken up. The confirmation came shortly after U.K. tabloid The Sun broke the news of the split on March 13. It seems that the former couple amicably parted ways, as indicated by their individual statements on the breakup.

According to The Sun, a "source close to the couple" revealed that the celebrity duo drifted apart due to their demanding work schedules.

"They have crazy work schedules that would put pressure on any relationship," the source told the publication.

Shortly after this story broke, Hadid and Malik both released their own statements on social media regarding the matter. Malik first posted a short message on Twitter, expressing respect and adoration for his former girlfriend. He also asked fans to respect their privacy at this time and expressed regret that the news did not come from him and Hadid first.

Hadid also posted her own message later on, saying that she will continue to support Malik as a friend and that she was grateful for the time they had together.

Just in January of this year, Malik got an image of Hadid's eyes tattooed on his chest. Malik also previously got a tattoo of ex-fiancée Perrie Edwards's name on his arm, although he had it removed after they broke up.
