'Girl Meets World' season 3 spoilers: Lucas will ask Riley to be his girlfriend in 'Girl Meets High School'

Girl Meets World season 3 Disney Channel

The love triangle of Lucas (Peyton Meyer), Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) and Riley (Rowan Blanchard) will come to an end in the premiere episode of "Girl Meets World" season 3, right as the trio make their way into high school.

According to a report from Enstarz, the word "girlfriend" is going to be tossed around and it is now widely speculated that Lucas will ask Riley to be his girlfriend, choosing her over Maya. This will reportedly cause fights to erupt involving Riley, Lucas, Maya and Farkle (Corey Fogelmanis).

However, it is also stated that by the end of the first half of the two-part premiere, Riley won't be in a very happy state, prompting Maya to console her. It is speculated that all the arguments will be the cause of Riley's problems and that she will point out she doesn't need Lucas's love as much as she needs Maya's friendship.

It is taken that this may mean Riley and Maya will choose to stick together and prioritize their friendship instead of allowing their feelings for Lucas to drive this apart. This will be the driving force that keeps the two together as they venture into a new life in high school.

Despite this, there is a chance things will get even more complicated as Josh (Uriah Shelton) will be coming back. Fans of the series will recall that Maya has a big crush on Josh and the character will be a freshman in the high school Riley and Maya attend. Josh's return was confirmed via the official Twitter account of "Girl Meets World."

"Relationships aside, 'BMW' went to high school and a good show got better. Scripts in, same happening here. More Zay, more Smackle, more Josh," reads the Twitter post.

"Girl Meets World" season 3 is currently in production with no release date yet announced, although it is speculated to begin airing in late May or June, based on the premiere of previous seasons.
