After a short hiatus, fans will once again get to see Riley (Rowan Blanchard) and the rest of the gang of Disney Channel's "Girl Meets World" when it comes back on July 10.

Cartermatt reveals that in a new episode entitled "Girl Meets Mr. Squirrels Goes to Washington," Eric Matthews (Will Friedle) will enter the political arena. He will be campaigning against the incumbent, disgraced New York Senator Jefferson Davis Graham, for a seat in the US Senate. As for Riley and Maya (Sabrina Carpenter), there is no news yet on what they will be up to.

Last episode, Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong) and Maya got the chance to bond as he began to take the role of her new father seriously. However, Angela Moore (Trina McGee) came back to his life, threatening to destroy Maya's hope of a complete family, Movie News Guide reports.

Maya then tried to get Shawn's attention by asking him for some "fatherly advice," and he gave one, saying he did not like the way she dressed. When she cried, he told her that he would buy her new clothes if she stopped, which she did.

When Cory (Ben Savage) saw the two's cute father-daughter moments, he asked Riley why they could not be like that. Riley answered by shoving him off their seat. Riley also tried Maya's tactic with him, but to no avail.

Later, at Demolition, Cory tried to make Shawn sit with him while waiting for Maya to finish trying on clothes in the dressing room. He refused at first, because that would mean he would really be like a father to Maya. But when he saw her looking wonderful in a more feminine dress, he changed his mind and ended up buying her a new wardrobe.

Meanwhile, Katy Hart (Cheryl Texiera) began to object to Shawn's kindness to her daughter. But after seeing how happy she was, she gave in. While trying on her new clothes, Maya confessed to Riley that for once in her life, she was going to allow herself to have some hope that Shawn and her mother could get back together.

Katy heard this, and she confronted Shawn, telling him not to keep Maya's hopes up. Shawn told her Angela was already part of his past, and that they should both learn how to let others into their lives. At that moment, however, Angela arrived.

It turned out that she was already married and worried about becoming a mother. Her own mother left her years ago, and it was only Shawn to whom she could talk to about her woes. He told her to be brave and to enjoy watching her children grow up to be amazing persons. 

Afterwards, Katy ended up asking Shawn for a date, to which he said yes after seeing his father's spirit, Chet Hunter (Blake Clark) encouraging him to go. In the background, Maya could be heard letting out a Riley-like cheer for this new headway.

Episode 9 airs at 8:30 p.m. Friday on the Disney Channel.
