'Girl Meets World' season 3 spoilers, cast news: Show sets up TGIF reunion by casting Reginald VelJohnson

"Girl Meets World" season 3 is delivering strong nostalgia vibesw with Reginald VelJohnson guesting.Disney Channel

"Family Matters" alum Reginald VelJohnson will be guest-starring in an episode of "Girl Meets World" season 3, and his role in the beloved 1989 series won't be any different from the one he will play in the hit Disney Channel series.

VelJohnson will play the role of a cop in a "Girl Meets World" season 3 episode. However, he won't reprise his "Family Matters" character Carl Winslow.

For the uninitiated, "Family Matters" and "Boy Meets World," which is the parent series of "Girl Meets World," are basically set in one universe.

These two shows were once included in the lineup of ABC's now-defunct primetime programming block called TGIF, short for Thank Goodness, It's Funny.

While VelJohnson won't be playing Carl Winslow in his "Girl Meets World" season 3 stint, it looks like seeing him in a cop uniform will give the same nostalgia to "Boy Meets World" fans. In fact, that's what "Girl Meets World" star Ben Savage felt about working with VelJohnson again.

"We were thrilled he joined us on-set this week. Having him here, felt like stepping back into my childhood. He's a terrific actor and such a nice guy," the actor told E! News.

Not much is known about what VelJohnson's character will really be up to in "Girl Meets World" season 3, but his inclusion hints that someone is getting in trouble.

When the new season of the hit Disney Channel series begins, Riley and the gang are off to high school. The two-parter "Girl Meets World" season 3 opener is titled "Girl Meets High School" and will air this spring.

Fans can expect a big shift in tone in the new season as well as the resolution of the Riley-Lucas-Maya love triangle. Uriah Shelton will also play a bigger role in "Girl Meets World" season 3 after sitting out during the latter part of season 2 due to an accident.
