"Girl Meets World" is currently in its third season, and the season finale will serve as a massive reunion involving the cast of both "Girl Meets World" and "Boy Meets World." However, it may also be the last episode of the show as rumors are running high that Disney will not renew the show for a fourth season.

According to Chatt Sports News, one of the reasons why the show faces possible cancellation is the fact that the target audience is getting older. This indicates that the stories "Girl Meets World" focuses on won't be mature enough for the audience to relate to.

In order to fix this, a fourth season would need to significantly alter the story format and approach, but this would also mean the show would no longer be fit for the young Disney audience. One possible means of working around this would be moving "Girl Meets World" to Freeform, Disney's other channel for older audiences.

However, it is also stated that the show may not even get a chance for it to be moved as the low ratings could just lead to Disney canceling it all together, especially if the highly marketed finale does not perform as well as hoped.

Parent Herald reveals that the first season started with an average of 2.74 million viewers but this dropped to 2.28 million in season 2. By season 3 it is noted that this number has dropped to just over 1 million viewers, indicating that it is no longer as popular as it once was and that it may no longer be profitable for Disney to keep around.

Disney has yet to make any announcements on whether season 3 is going to be the end of the series or not. Fans speculate that the studios will continue to keep silent until after the finale has aired, allowing the executives to wait and see the final ratings count before making an official decision.
