The Disney Channel is still mum on whether it is interested in picking up the coming of age series "Girl Meets World" for a fourth season, but it doesn't mean that the cast is giving up hope for a renewal.

The show is currently airing its third season — which is expected to run until 2017 — but lead characters Riley (Rowan Blanchard) and Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) are expected to graduate from high school at the end of the season.

It has been rumored that the network is no longer interested in pursuing the series beyond high school because the girls' college years will be beyond the tastes of their target market.

"We are wrapping production next week on the third season. With episodes airing on Disney Channel into 2017, there's no news to share yet about a fourth season," a Disney representative told TVLine.

Barring the announcement of a renewal or confirmation of the show's cancellation, the stars of "Girl Meets World" are posting encouragements on social media to convince fans to continue fighting for the series' renewal.

"So important 4 our gen to be a voice of hope/change & learn from each other. Hoping we continue to have that chance #GirlMeetsWorldSeason4," posted Rowan Blanchard.

Fans of the show have earlier started a petition to keep the show on air even if it is picked up by a different network like Freeform, whose target audience will gladly keep tabs on the college adventures of Riley and Maya.

The petition — which set a target of 75,000 signatures — has so far garnered 51,231 supporters.

"Because Disney is more catered to kids, Girl meets World isn't allowed to explore the many more mature subjects that Boy meets World was allowed to explore. Simply put, Girl meets World will never reach its fullest potential while its on Disney," read the petition on Change.org, a sentiment that many supporters agree with.
